The fourth match of IPL2020 was played at Sharjah Stadium in which Rajasthan Royals beat Chennai Super Kings by 16 runs to make a winning start in the league. Against a target of 217 given to Rajasthan, Chennai could only manage 200 runs in 20 overs. Thus, Dhoni's team, which defeated defending champions Mumbai Indians in the opening match, lost the match.

Faf du Plessis was the highest run scorer from Chennai with 72 runs. While MS Dhoni contributed 29 runs. Chennai had a good start as they faced a 217-run challenge. Shane Watts hit 33 off 21 balls with the help of 4 sixes and 1 four. Murali Vijay was then caught out by Tom Karan off Shreyas Gopal. He hit 21 off 21 balls with the help of 3 fours.
