Due to Corona, Shashank Manohar's tenure as ICC chairman will be extended by two months

New Delhi, Dt

India's Shashank Manohar's tenure as chairman of the International Cricket Council is likely to be extended for two months due to the corona virus. However, Colin Graves of the England and Wales Cricket Board is considered the hot favorite to succeed Shashank. Shashank Manohar has been the chairman of the ICC for the last four years. Manohar's term as ICC chairman is two years and has been extended once. However, this time he is expected to resign.

The ICC board meeting was postponed due to the Corona epidemic. As a result, Manohar's tenure is likely to be extended for a month or two. A media report quoting a member of the ICC board said that Manohar was set to resign as ICC chairman this time. Given the current epidemic, an ICC board meeting is unlikely to be held in June. Now the ICC's annual general meeting will be held in August and that is when the decision on the new ICC chairman will be taken.

An experienced BCCI official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "Until Manohar resigns, I am not ready to believe that he is leaving." They have the option to extend the tenure. If he decides at the last minute that he will serve another term as ICC chairman, no one else can.

Hong Kong's Imran Khawaja also showed readiness to be Manohar's successor. However he could not get the support of any full-time members. The current chairman of the ECB is due to resign from his board in November. They have the support of most Test playing nations. In addition to England, boards from countries such as Australia, the West Indies and New Zealand are also favoring him.
