Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has become the first Indian player to win the Fed Cup Heart Award. After becoming a mother, Sania made a comeback in international tennis. Sania received the award in the Asia-Oceania group, which was decided on the basis of online votes. Sania received a રકમ 2,000 prize for winning the award, which she donated to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for her fight against Corona.
The three regional group one nominees got a total of 13.8 votes, out of which Sania Mirza got more than 10,000 votes. Voting for the award began on the 1st and tennis fans had to vote online. Sania Mirza, the world's leading fan base, polled more than 50 per cent of the total votes.
"I am proud to be the first Indian player to accept this award and I do it in the name of the country," Sania Mirza said in a statement. I also thank all the fans who voted for me. I hope to make the country more proud in the future. Sania Mirza gave birth to Izhan in October 2018 and she has since made a successful comeback.
After a break of four years, Sania Mirza returned to the Fed Cup and was instrumental in getting India into the Fed Cup play-offs for the first time. The Fed Cup Heart Awards have been launched since 2007. This award is given to the player who shows extraordinary passion as well as commitment to the tournament. The award was given in 2012 to Zarina Dias of Kazakhstan.
