In the fourth day's play of the second Test of the series against the Windies in a bio-secure environment amid the Corona epidemic, England fielder Sibley forgot the rule and spit on the ball he had to shine. After which the umpires disinfected the ball.
The incident happened just before lunch on the fourth day of the ongoing Test at Old Trafford. Sibley salivated as usual to shine the ball next to him. However, he later realized his mistake and immediately drew the attention of the on-field umpires. As spinner Dom Boss was preparing to bowl, umpires Michael Goff and Richard Ealingworth sought to test the ball.
Umpire Michael Goff pulled the disinfectant out of his pocket and rubbed it on the ball. He then returned the ball to the spinner. The only wicket that fell before lunch was fast. In reply to England's 3 for 4 in the first innings, the Windies were 4 for 4 by tea break on the fourth day.
