The new qualifying league launched by the ICC for the 202 ODI World Cup to be held on Indian soil will start from today. The qualifying league for the 202 ODI World Cup to be held in India will be known as the World Cup Super League. The Netherlands will join the top 15 teams in the league as the 16th team and compete for the World Cup. The league is scheduled to start today with the ODI series between England and Ireland starting July 20. The match will start at 6.30 pm Indian time.
Each team in the World Cup Super League will play four ODI series on a home-away basis. Each ODI series will have three ODIs. At the end of the scheduled league, the top seven teams other than host India will advance directly to the 202nd World Cup.
The team that wins the match in the series played under the league will be given 10 points. When the match will be tied, five points will be given. Not a single point is scored in a draw. The five teams that have been disqualified from the Super League will have to play five associate teams in the World Cup Qualifier-207. At the end of the match between these 10 teams, the top two teams will get admission in the 10-member ICC World Cup to be played in 205.
Regarding the new league, the ICC said that the league will be played over the next three years and because of this all the teams will play their matches with more vigor. The Irish team is currently on a tour of England. The first ODI between them will be played on July 20. The next two ODIs will be held on August 1 and 2.
