Grandmaster RB Ramesh, the chief selector of the Indian chess team, resigned in a shocking allegation that he was disturbed by the interference by officials in the selection process and was resigning because of this. The resignation of the chief selector raised questions about the All India Chess Federation.
However, Vijay Deshpande, secretary of the All India Chess Federation, blamed Bharat Singh Chauhan for the incident, saying it was because of him that Ramesh had resigned. "We have not yet accepted his resignation and efforts are underway to persuade him," he said. Ramesh himself is a former Commonwealth champion.
Grandmaster RB Ramesh said, "I am resigning as I am fed up with the interference by the federation officials in the team selection." The ongoing uncertainty and extreme complexity in the federation also does not suit me.
Ramesh added that he had selected the team keeping in view the ratings from January to March. However, after the selection of this team, the whole event took a new turn. President PR Venkatraman Raja and Secretary Bharat Singh Chauhan announced two separate teams for the Online Chess Olympiad starting July 7. Eventually both groups chose a common team by mutual consent. In Indian chess, there have been differences between the president and the secretary on a number of issues.
