Defending champions Nadal and Andrescui, as well as world number one women's player Ashley Barty, former champion Wawrinka, have withdrawn from the US Open due to the epidemic. However, young players, including Serbian tennis star Djokovic, who topped the men's singles, are set to compete. Djokovic has even reached New York. Due to which, the organizers are looking forward to the start of the tournament from August 31.
Mike Dowsey, executive director of the US Tennis Association, said that despite the current situation, 10 former women champions are participating in the US Open. Out of the top 100 players, 21 are ready to take part in the tournament. In the men's singles, seven players from the top 10 are to participate.
Spectators will not be allowed to enter the stadium this time around during the US Open, which is taking place during the Corona epidemic. The previous Cincinnati Open tournament will also be held in New York, starting this year. Organizers claim that about 50 percent of the people have come to New York or entered the bubble for the tournament.
