Serena will compete in the US Open, with Halep likely to move

New York, Dt

On the one hand some of Europe’s top tennis stars are unwilling to go to New York to participate in the US Open amid fears of a Corona epidemic. While stars like Nadal, Wawrinka, Kyrgios, Ashley Barty, Svitolina, Bertens have announced their withdrawal from the US Open, American veteran Serena Williams has shown readiness to play in both the US Open and the French Open. However, Romania's Simona Halep also refused to make any commitment on the US Open at this stage.

Serena Williams, who has won three Grand Slam singles titles, has begun preparations. The top seed open tournament is starting tomorrow to give players a chance to prepare ahead of the US Open starting August 31. Serena Williams is set to take part in the hard court tournament. Serena will be seen playing on the tennis court for the first time in six months.

This will be the first tournament in the United States since March, featuring Serena's older sister Venus Williams, Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, Sloane Stephens of the United States and Coco Gough.

Meanwhile, top women's tennis player Simona Halep said, "I am not going to participate in the US Open at this stage. This is a worrying year and it must be adapted. I miss tennis. To that end, I have decided to take part in a doubles event at a tournament in Prague. The tournament in Prague will be played before the US Open and many believe that Halep will take part in the US Open.
