Austria's Dominic Thiem advanced to the US Open men's singles final, beating Russia's Medvedev 6-4, 6-6 (7-6), 6-6 (7-6) in straight sets. Where he will face young German player Zverev. Zverev advanced to the Grand Slam final for the first time in his career, beating Spain's Carneiro Busta 6-4, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in a pawn set. Now the final of US Open Men's Singles will start tomorrow (Sunday) at half past midnight Indian time.
The 6-year-old Thiem won the first set against Medvedev after a dramatic turn. Entering the semifinals without losing a single set, Medvedev was trailing 3-2 in the first set when he wanted to challenge the line call for his serve with a score of 20-20. However, chair umpire Dumusois told him that he had made the request after the time for the challenge had passed, which could not be accepted. The controversy escalated after this. Thiam also requested to accept his challenge, but it was not accepted. The agitated Medvedev went to the front of the net and showed where the ball had bounced. Referee Dumusois called it a violation of the rules. In the current match in tennis, no player can cross the net and go to the opponent.
Grand Slam observer Wayne McQueen also warned Medvedev about this. "Sorry, I think I killed someone, right," said Medvedev. Sorry, I'm so bad I crossed the net. I apologize to the US Open for crossing the net. I apologize very seriously. The points were then awarded to Thiem and he won the set 2-2. Both subsequent sets were won in the Thiam tiebreaker.
Germany's Zverev did not have a good start in the ongoing US Open at Flushing Meadows and Basta won the first two sets. However, Zverev won in the third set rather than a combative performance. Busta could not maintain his rhythm against Zverev's aggressive play and lost the final two sets.
