An unbeaten 151-ball partnership between Der Dussen (8 *) and Miller (8 *) resulted in India losing by seven wickets with five balls to spare in the first T20 against South Africa. With this, India's 12-match winning streak in T20 also came to an end. This was India's first T20I defeat in 2008. South Africa surpassed the target of 212 to win by losing three wickets in 19.1 overs. With this, South Africa took a 1-0 lead in the five T20 series. Now the second T20 of the series will be played on June 14 in Cuttack.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first. Ishaan Kish, who has been performing poorly in the IPL, showed his form and hit 4 off 11 balls with 11 fours and three sixes. His and Gaekwad's pair gave India an aggressive start with a 4-run partnership off 4 balls. Gaekwad was bowled out for 3 by Parnell.
Kishan and Shreyas Aiyar combined for 50 off 50 balls. Kishan was the victim of Maharaj and Shreyas was the victim of Pretorius. Captain Rishabh Pant and Hardik shared a 6-run stand off 12 balls. Pant was bowled out for 9 off 19 balls with three fours and two sixes. Hardik, meanwhile, scored an unbeaten 21 off 12 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes.
In response, South Africa made a slow start. Bhuvneshwar was the victim for 10 runs. Pretoria scored 9 off 12 balls , including four sixes and a four. He was dismissed by Hershal Patel. Akshar Patel ended the 6-run struggle with 14 balls from D Cock. His catch was caught by Kish. South Africa lost the third wicket for 21 runs in 4.5 overs. However, Der Dussen and Miller snatched the game from India's hands.
Markram out of coronation
All-rounder Markram Corona, who was part of the South African team, was dropped from the first T20. The series is being played without a bio-bubble as Corona's condition eases. However, the players are regularly tested. Markram's corona test was positive and he was dropped from the first match. The match was postponed after the other players' corona test negative.
Shreyas Aiyar's life donation to Dussen cost India dearly
Shreyas Aiyar's life-saving gift to South African batsman Der Dussen was finally overwhelming for India. When Shreyas Aiyar dropped Dussen's catch, he was playing 4 off 20 balls. Dussen was instrumental in the team's victory, hitting an unbeaten 4 off 9 balls. If Shreyas had taken that catch fast, the outcome of the match could have been reversed.
