Gurunaidu Sanapati has become the first Indian weightlifter to win a gold medal at the IWF (International Weightlifting Federation) World Youth Championships in Lyon, Mexico. The 16-year-old lifter won the gold medal in the 55kg category late Sunday night with a total effort of 230kg (104kg and 126kg).

Ali Majeed of Saudi Arabia (229kg (105kg and 124kg) ranked second
-Karastan's Yerasil Umrov 224kg (100kg and 124kg) in third place
In addition, India's Soumya S Dalvi won a bronze medal in her event on the second day of the competition. Maharashtra's Dalvi finished third in the women's 45kg with 148kg (65kg and 83kg).
Another Indian participant in the competition, R Bhavani, finished 8th with an effort of 132 kg (57 kg and 75 kg).
Akanksha Kishore Vyavar and Vijay Prajapati won silver medals in their respective events on the first day of the competition. India has won 4 medals so far in this competition.
