With the help of Rohit Sharma's 64 runs off 44 balls and Dinesh Karthik's unbeaten 41 runs off 19 balls with 4 fours and two sixes, India scored 190 runs for six wickets in the first T20 against West Indies. In response, Windies managed to score 122 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. With this, India took the lead in the series by 1-0.
Windies won the toss and made India bat first. There was a surprise when Suryakumar opened with captain Rohit. The pair of Rohit-Suryakumar added 44 runs in 28 balls. Rohit and Pant shared 43 runs in 25 balls. Finally, Dinesh Karthik and Ashwin put on 52 not out in 25 balls to take India's score to 190 for six wickets.
Against a target of 191 to win, Windies were beaten. Opener Myers 15 , Burks 20 , Holder 0 , Pooran 18 , Powell 14 , Hetmyer 14 , Hossain 11 , O. Smith was out for 0 runs. The pair of Paul (19) and Joseph (5) added 21 runs unbeaten in 21 balls in the ninth wicket. Now the second T-20 will be played on 1st August.
