The Indian Women Cricket Team led by Harmanpreet Kaur left for Birmingham on Sunday (July 24) for the Commonwealth Games 2022. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video on its official Twitter handle in which the team departed from Bangalore. For the first time, women's cricket has been included in the Commonwealth Games (CWG 2022). The Indian team is in high spirits and is confident of winning the team gold.
The Indian board has written in the caption of the video, 'Congratulations to Team India' who left Bangalore for Birmingham this morning. Smriti Mandhana will hold the responsibility of vice captaincy of the team. Strong gold medal contenders, the Indian team will begin their campaign at the Commonwealth Games on July 29 against world champions Australia. Team India has been placed in the group. Apart from India and Australia, Pakistan and Barbados teams are in this group.
- The final match will be played on August 7
Group B has teams from England, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka. All 16 matches of the tournament will be played at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. The cricket in this multi-sport tournament will start from July 29 while the final and third place playoff match will be played on August 7. Two matches will be played in one day. The first match of the day will be played at 3.30 PM IST while the second match will be played at 10:30 PM.
