With this, for the first time in England or Europe, the name of an Indian cricketer will be associated with a cricket stadium. Gavaskar himself is going to Leicester for the naming of this stadium. Significantly, Sunil Gavaskar Cricket Stadium is also located in Kentucky, USA and Zanzibar, Tanzania.
The 73-year-old Gavaskar said that it is a matter of pride that my name is going to be associated with the cricket ground in Leicester . Indian cricket enjoys overwhelming support in Leicester. The Bharat Sports and Cricket Club's stadium in Leicester has been decided to be named the Sunil Gavaskar Stadium.
The idea behind Leicester's stadium being named after Gavaskar came from the UK's long-serving Indian-origin MP Keith Vaz. He said , we feel a lot of excitement and pride in associating Gavaskar's name with this stadium. For us, he is not just a little master , but the legend of the game of cricket.
