Again Pakistan failed: Team came to Chennai for Chess Olympiad, now pulled out. Ahead of the 44th Chess Olympiad to be held in India, Pakistan has once again raised the issue of Kashmir and the border. Pakistan has announced its withdrawal from the Chess Olympiad just an hour before the start of the event.

Shockingly, just two days ago, the Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP) said that a ten-member Pakistani chess team would travel to Chennai to participate in the 44th Chess Olympiad, and now within 48 hours, Islamabad has announced its withdrawal. Pakistan condemned the decision to withdraw the torch relay from Jammu and Kashmir and recalled the team.

On the other hand, India on Thursday criticized Pakistan for skipping the 44th Chess Olympiad to be held in Tamil Nadu. India has said it is "extremely unfortunate" that Islamabad has "politicised" the prestigious international event.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi was responding to questions on Pakistan's decision to pull out of the Olympics citing the event's torch relay passing through Jammu and Kashmir. He directly told Pakistan that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh were, are and will remain an integral part of India.

Reacting to Pakistan's decision, Bagchi said that it was surprising that Pakistan had suddenly decided not to participate in the event. It is extremely unfortunate that Pakistan has politicized a prestigious international event by making such statements and withdrawing its participation after its team reached India.
