India has announced the squad for the Davis Cup World Group One tie against Norway. In which Sumit Nagal has made a comeback. While doubles specialist player Divij Sharan has been dropped. India have to travel to Norway to play this away tie. Davis Cup tie will be played between India and Norway on September 16 and 17. Significantly , this will be the first time that India and Norway will meet each other in the Davis Cup.
Ramkumar Ramanathan is India's number one singles player, ranked 196th in the world. Along with it Prajnesh Gunnaswaran (295th rank) , Sasikumar Mukund (431st rank) and Yuki Bhambri (571st rank) have been given a chance. While India's doubles specialist player Rohan Bopanna has also been given a place. Bopanna is ranked 21st in the ATP doubles rankings.
Two other Indian players Arjun Khadhe (519) and Siddharth Rawat (566) are ahead of Yuki in the ranking. However, if Yuki Bhambri uses his Injury Protect Ranking, he can be among the top-100 players in the ranking. Due to this, he got a chance in the team.
India's non-playing captain Rohit Rajpal has selected one player as a reserve. Only five players can participate in the Davis Cup tie to be played in Norway. Nagle underwent back surgery last year and has been back since April. He participated in eight tournaments in the current season , winning four matches.
