World Championships: Neeraj Chopra creates history by winning silver medal


- After 19 years, an Indian won a medal at the World Athletics Championships thanks to Neeraj Chopra

Tokyo Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra created history by winning the silver medal in the men's javelin throw event at the World Athletics Championships. Neeraj bagged the silver medal in his fourth attempt with his best throw of 88.13m.

India medal after 19 years

Thanks to Neeraj Chopra, after 19 years an Indian has won a medal in the World Athletics Championship. Earlier in 2003, Anju Bobby George won the bronze medal in women's long jump.

Neeraj Chopra's first attempt was a foul while in the second attempt he threw 82.39 meters. However, it was far from his best performance. On the other hand, Andersen Peters of Granada crossed 90 meters in the first attempt. He almost secured his medal by throwing 90.46, 90.21 and 90.46 meters in 3 consecutive attempts.

Neeraj improved his performance during the third attempt and finished fourth with a throw of 86.37m. Indian star Neeraj has secured the second number by throwing 88.13 meters in the fourth round. This performance of Neeraj was better than Olympics. In the Olympics, Neeraj won the gold medal with a javelin throw of 87.58 meters.

In the final of the championship played at Eugene, America, Neeraj has targeted the silver medal. While Andersen Peters of Granada has won the gold medal. Apart from Neeraj Chopra, Rohit Yadav also reached the finals of this championship. However, he finished 10th and was eliminated from the medal race in the final.

Anderson won gold with 90.54

Anderson Peters made his first 2 consecutive throws of over 90 meters in the final. Along with this, he won the gold medal in the final with a best throw of 90.54 meters. Along with Neerjana in the final was another Indian Rohit Yadav. He failed to finish in the top-8 after the opening 3 throws and was out of the medal race.
