BWF World Championships 2022: Chirag-Satvik pair reach semi-finals

The duo of Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty has reached the semi-finals. The young pair defeated Japan's Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi 24-22, 15-21, 21-14. This pair secured India's first medal in World Champion 2022. A player who reaches the semi-finals of the Badminton World Championship gets a bronze medal. This is India's 13th overall medal in the semi-finals of the World Championships. On the other hand, India has won the medal for the second time in the double event. Earlier, the pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa won the medal in women's doubles in 2011.

The world number 7 Indian pair, who won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games earlier this month, produced a superb performance to defeat the strong medal contenders and reigning champions in a match that lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes. Along with this, he secured a medal for himself in the World Championships for the first time.

MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila's winning campaign earlier came to an end with a men's doubles quarter-final loss to the three-time gold medalist pair of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan. The unseeded Indian pair lost 8-21, 14-21 to the third-seeded Indonesian pair in less than 30 minutes.
