FIFA bans India: Loses hosting of Under-17 Women's Football World Cup

New Delhi , dated 16

Football's apex body, FIFA, has created an uproar after it decided to ban India. The All India Football Federation faced FIFA's ban for the first time in its 85-year history. Along with this, FIFA also snatched the hosting of the FIFA Under-17 Women's Football World Cup from India to be held in October.

FIFA has said that this drastic action was taken due to the influence of unnecessary third parties in the management of football in India. He added that we had to take this decision because of the shameful violation of FIFA's rules. The Bureau of FIFA Council unanimously decided to suspend India.

Now when will the suspension be withdrawn ?

The Supreme Court on May 18 relieved All India Football Federation president Praful Patel and his executive committee from their posts and constituted a Committee of Administrators (COA) to manage all the functions. However, FIFA considers this sequence of events to be third party interference. In his letter regarding the suspension, he clearly wrote that the suspension will be lifted only when the Committee of Administrators (COA) departs and the All India Football Federation Committee takes over the day-to-day management of Indian football.

Under-17 Women's Football World Cup

With FIFA suspending India, the Under-17 Women's Football World Cup will no longer be held on Indian soil in October. Now there is a possibility that the hosting of this Junior Women's Football World Cup will be handed over to another country. FIFA will report this to its Bureau of Councils as and when deemed necessary and further action will be taken thereafter.

Why did the Supreme Court have to act in the matter of AIFF ?

Praful Patel completed his third term and 12 years in office as the President of the All India Football Federation in December 2020. This is the maximum period allowed as the President of any National Federation under the Indian Sports Code. Of course , due to the pending cases before the Supreme Court regarding the constitution of the All India Football Federation, the federation elections could not be held. This is why the Supreme Court had to intervene. Supreme Court Retd Supreme Court for Management of All India Football Federation. Judge A.R. A three-member committee headed by Dave was appointed. In which former Chief Election Commissioner of India S.Y. Qureshi and former Indian captain Bhaskar Ganguly were included. According to the order of the Supreme Court, the All India Football Federation elections were also to be held on August 28.

Center demands immediate hearing in Supreme Court

When FIFA suspended the All India Football Federation, the central government sought an urgent hearing in the Supreme Court. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta in the matter of FIFA ban Justice D.Y.Chandrachud and S.S. Bopanna informed the bench. Now a hearing will be held in this matter today on Wednesday.
