Former Indian football team captain Baichung Bhutia has opted for the All India Football Federation (AIFF) president election. Bhutia filed his nomination for the post of AIFF president. Significantly, the All India Football Federation elections are scheduled to be held on September 2.
The Andhra Football Association proposed the nomination of 45-year-old Bhutia. When Rajasthan supported it. Bhutia said that , I have filled the nomination form for the presidency of AIFF. I believe that I am the right candidate to become the President of the Football Association of India.
Bhutia added that , I have played many matches for the country and for top clubs. I am also well versed in football administration. I have previously worked in the Mission Olympics Cell of the Ministry of Sports. Apart from this I played an effective role in other committees as well. I want Indian football to reach new heights.
Former Mohun Bagan and East Bengal goalkeeper and current West Bengal BJP leader Kalyan Chaubey has also filed his candidature to become the president of the All India Football Federation. He is considered the favorite to become the president. Chaubey's nomination was proposed by the Gujarat Football Association. When Arunachala supported him.
