Olympic champion and World Championship silver medalist Niraj Chopra of India scored his first ever number one throw in the javelin event at a Diamond League event. He remained on top with a throw of 89.09 meters but also qualified for the Super Diamond League to be held in Zurich next month in the first week of September. Given the way he has performed, he has a chance to become the champion in the Super Diamond League. The Super Diamond League features the number one javelin thrower in the Diamond League series.
Niraj's throw of 89.09 meters is the third best throw of his career.
Four Diamond Leagues a year have a javelin event with the top six players advancing to the Super Diamond League based on points. Niraj participated in two out of four this year and has entered fourth with a total of 15 points. Now the Super Diamond League will be held between the six top ranked competitors.
Niraj Chopra could not participate in the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham due to injury. Now the Super Diamond League will be held in Zurich on September 7-8, Niraj said , I have barely a week to prepare. With three out of the five events, his throw has been over 89 meters and he is confident of taking his mark to 90 plus.
