India's H.S. Prannoy continued his brilliant form and entered the quarter-finals of the World Badminton Championship. Prannoy advanced to the pre-quarterfinals by beating India's ninth seed Lakshya Sen 17-21 , 21-16 , 21-17 in a hard-fought three-game encounter. Now Prannoy will face China's Zhao Jun Peng.
The seventh-seeded pair of Satviksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Denmark's Jepp Bye and Lasse Molhede 21-12 , 21-10 to enter the men's doubles quarterfinals. Dhruva Kapila of India and MR. Arjun's pair defeated Singapore's Loh Ken Han and Hee Yong Kai Terry 18-21 , 21-15 , 21-16 to reach the last eight. Satwik-Chirag will now take on the second seeded Japanese pair of Hoki-Kobayashi. While the pair of Dhruv-Arjun will play against Ahsan-Setiyawan of Indonesia who have the third seed.
While India's Saina Nehwal was thrown out of the pre-quarter finals after losing 21-17, 16-21 , 21-13 against Thailand's Busanan.
In the men's singles event of the ongoing World Badminton Championship in Tokyo, the match between Prannoy and Lakshya turned out to be very exciting. Prannoy caused a major upset by defeating two-time world champion and world number two Japan's Momota in the second round. He continued his excellent form to win the match against Lakshya in an hour and 15 minutes.
The quarter final match will be played between Prannoy and Zhao. Only one match has been played between the two in the past , in which Zhao has won. However, in the form Prannoy is currently in , he can cause an upset.
