India's pair of Chirag Shetty and Satviksairaj Rankireddy were defeated in the men's doubles semi-finals of the World Badminton Championship. With this, the pair of Chirag-Satviksairaj had to settle for a bronze medal. However, this bronze was also historic for India , as it was the first time an Indian pair had won a medal in men's doubles. This was India's 13th medal in the World Badminton Championship.
The seventh ranked pair of Chirag-Satwik lost 22-20 , 18-21 , 16-21 against Malaysia's sixth ranked Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yeek. In World Badminton, the loser of the semi-final is awarded a bronze medal. Now in the final, the Malaysian pair will face the third-ranked Indonesians Mohd Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan.
Chirag-Satwik lost this sixth consecutive match against the Malaysian pair. Earlier, they lost to the same pair in the final of the Commonwealth Games mixed team event.
Axelsen and Yamaguchi in the final
Top-seeded men's singles player Viktor Axelsen of Denmark entered the final with a 21-15, 21-17 win over fourth-seeded Chou Tien-Chen . They will now face 16th-ranked Thailand's Kunlavut Witidsam. Who won 22-20, 21-6 against China's unranked Zhao Jun Peng . While in women's singles defending champion Japanese player Yamaguchi again entered the final. Top seed Yamaguchi defeated South Korea's An Se-young 21-19 , 21-12. Now she will face China's Chen Yufei , who defeated Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying 15-21 , 21-14 , 21-18.
