World Badminton: India's medal assured as Satwik-Chirag pair enter semi-finals

India's pair of Chirag Shetty and Satviksairaj Rankireddy sealed a medal by entering the semi-finals of the World Badminton Championships. With this, India will get a medal in Men's Doubles for the first time in the history of World Badminton Championship. Although India's H.S. Prannoy's defeat in the quarter-finals ended India's challenge in the singles.
In the ongoing World Badminton Championship in Tokyo, India's world number seven pair of Satviksairaj and Chirag created a major upset by defeating the defending champion and second seeded pair of Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi 24-22, 15-21 , 21-14 in the quarter finals. Satvik-Chirag cruised to victory in a very challenging match of one hour and 15 minutes. They will now face sixth seeds Aaron Chia and Son Wooi Yick of Malaysia.
With this, India secured the 13th overall and second medal in doubles in the history of the World Championship. Earlier, India's pair of Jwala Gatta and Ashwini Ponnappa won bronze in women's doubles. He achieved this in 2011.
Sindhu won a total of five medals in 2019, including the singles gold. While Saina Nehwal won silver and bronze, Kidambi Srikanth won silver , Prakash Padukone , Sai Praneeth and Lakshya Sen won bronze models.
Of course , India's H.S. India's challenge in singles came to an end when Prannoy lost to China's Zhao Jun Peng 19-21 , 21-6 , 21-18 in the quarter-finals. India's Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun were also knocked out in the quarter-finals after losing 21-8, 21-14 against the third-seeded Ahsan-Setiwan of Indonesia .
