- Kohli should retire when he is at the peak of his career: Afridi
New delhi date. 14 September 2022, Wednesday
Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has urged India's star batsman Virat Kohli to retire at the right time. He said, I hope Virat Kohli started his career the way he did. They will conclude it in the same way. Afridi said that Kohli should retire at a time when he is at the peak of his career.
Shahid Afridi said, 'A player should not reach a level where he has to be dropped from the team. Instead you should announce retirement when the top is up. However, this may rarely happen. Very few players especially cricketers from Asian countries are capable of making such a decision. Although I think Virat will do it well. It is likely that Virat will end his career the way he started his career.'
He further said that the way Virat has played cricket and the way he started his career. He first worked hard to make a name for himself by facing struggles. He is a champion and I believe there comes a stage when you move towards retirement. The goal of the player on this type of stage should be to finish high.
On the other hand, Indian cricketer Amit Mishra has also commented on Shahid Afridi's advice. Retweeting one of the tweets, he wrote, 'Dear Afridi, some people only retire once so please let Virat Kohli stay away from all this.'
Questions were being raised over Kohli's place in T20 cricket as, in the year 2022, he performed poorly in the shortest format of the game. Virat Kohli averaged below 25 in IPL 2022. Also he scored only 81 runs in his first 4 T20 Internationals this year. However, Kohli chose to take a break.
Kohli's brilliant performance in the Asia Cup
This break was very effective for Kohli and he returned to form by Asia Cup 2022. In the Asia Cup 2022, Kohli scored 276 runs at an average of 92 in 5 matches, including a century and two half-centuries. Meanwhile, Kohli played an innings of 122 runs against Afghanistan. This was the 71st century of his international career.
Virat Kohli said after scoring his 71st century, 'I was not disappointed when I returned. I was fresh after 6 weeks off. I realized how tired I was. The competition doesn't allow it but this break allowed me to enjoy the game again.' Now Indian fans are expecting good performance from Kohli in T20 World Cup.
