Gujarat women's tennis team enters semi-finals with winning start: medal assured

The top seeded Gujarat women's tennis team in the National Games secured a medal by entering the semi-finals with a winning start. Gujarat qualified for the last four by defeating Telangana 2-0 in their first match. Now Gujarat will face Karnataka in the semi-final tomorrow. Karnataka won the quarter final against Uttar Pradesh 2-0.

Gujarat made an impressive start in the tennis event of the National Games which started at the Riverfront Sports Complex. Gujarat's Zeel Desai won 6-1, 6-1 against Telangana's Abhaya Vemurin . While the country's top player Ankita Raina defeated Telangana's Pavni Pathak 6-1 , 6-1 to enter Gujarat into the semi-finals. In tennis, both losing teams in the semi-finals are awarded bronze. Gujarat Women's team is the gold medal contender as it is the top seed in the event.

However, the Gujarat men's tennis team was knocked out in their first match after a fighting display against Services and Services qualified for the semi-finals. Gujarat's Madhveen Kamath in the first singles international services player L. Balaji was defeated 6-2, 6-4. However, Gujarat was defeated in the second singles and doubles after that. Now Services will face Delhi in the semi-final. While Maharashtra will face Karnataka in the second semi-final.
