All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja looks unlikely to be fully fit before the Bangladesh Test series (India vs Bangladesh Test) starting on December 14 in Chittagong. Sources of the Indian cricket team gave this information. India have three options in the form of debutant off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, left-arm spinner Akshar Patel and left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav, so a fourth experienced spinner is hardly needed in the team. If the team management wants a spinner all-rounder like Jadeja, the option would be India A bowler Saurabh Kumar.
There are speculations that the new selection committee or the Indian team management (until a new committee is formed) seems to want to test Suryakumar Yadav's best form in the Test format. India are scheduled to play two Tests and three ODIs in Bangladesh and a strong Rohit Sharma-led squad is set to tour the neighboring country.
India will play two Tests from December 14-18 and Mirpur from December 22-26 after the three-match ODI series in the first week of next month. Jadeja underwent knee surgery after the Asia Cup in UAE and was out of the squad indefinitely.
A BCCI source said on condition of confidentiality, “Jadeja has visited the NCA several times for his check-up and rehab. As of now there is no chance of him being fit for the Bangladesh series. The former Chetan Sharma-led selection committee, however, kept him in the squad with the condition that he regains fitness. Saurabh has been part of the Test team during the series against Sri Lanka earlier this year. He took five wickets against New Zealand A in the 'A' Test series in Bangalore.
