
Beat Uzbekistan 3–1, competing with Spain for third place

India were disappointed at the FIDE World Team Chess Championship on Tuesday. Uzbekistan defeated India 3-1 in the semi-final. Now the Indian team has to play a match against Spain for the third place. Along with this, the title match will be played between Uzbekistan and China. China beat Spain 3-1 in the semi-finals.
At one point in the first round the scoreline was 2-2. SL Narayanan won brilliantly. However, SP Sethuraman's loss leveled the match. Vidit Santosh Gujarati played a draw. Along with this, Nihal Sarin's match was tied. In the second round, Gujarati and Sarin faced defeat at the hands of Uzbekistan's Yakuboev and Sindharov. Narayanan beating Vokidov was not enough for India. Sasikiran had to play a draw against Sindharov.
India entered the semi-finals by defeating France
Earlier, India defeated France in a tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of the FIDE World Team Chess Championship. The first two matches between the two teams were tied after which a blitz tie-breaker was resorted to in which India won by a margin of 2.5-1.5.
Nihal Sarin and SL Narayanan were the heroes of India's win, defeating Jules Moussard and Laurent Frescinet respectively. India's top player Vidit Gujarati held French star Maxime Vachier Legrave to a draw in 45 moves while Sasikiran was defeated by Maxime Lagarde in 55 moves. In such a situation, India was able to move forward with the victories of Sarin and Narayanan.
Along with this, Uzbekistan has made a place in the final four after defeating Ukraine. Earlier in the opening round, Gujarati defeated Lagrave while Narayan defeated Frescinet. Sarin and Shashikiran drew their game and India won the match 3-1. However, France won the second match by the same margin to take the match to a tiebreaker. In the second match, Lagarev defeated Gujarati while Frescinet defeated Narayanan. Sarin and Shashikiran played their game again.
