Defending champions Belgium beat the Netherlands 3-2 in a penalty shootout to enter the final of the Men's Hockey World Cup. The Netherlands twice took the lead in the semi-finals and both times Belgium came back to draw the match 2–2. Belgium scored on three of their opening four attempts. While the Netherlands missed at the fourth and fifth attempts and Belgium emerged victorious.
Now in the final to be played on January 29, Belgium will face Germany. Germany defeated Australia 4-3. Hayward and Ephraims gave Australia the lead in a very exciting match. Gonzalo Pellet scored two goals to equalize Germany. Gowers eventually gave the team the lead. However, Germany won 4-3 in dramatic fashion with goals from Peillet and Whalen in the last two minutes.
A chance for India to get the ninth rank
The Indian men's hockey team was knocked out of the pre-quarter finals. Now India will face South Africa for ninth place. This match will be played on 28th. In the previous match, India won 8-0 against Japan.
