The Indian badminton team had to settle for a bronze medal after losing 2-3 to China in the semifinals of the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship 2023 at the Dubai Exhibition Center yesterday. Earlier, India made it to the semi-finals by defeating Hong Kong 3-2 in the quarter-finals.
The pair of Dhruv Kapila/Chirag Shetty won first
HS Pranoy lost 13-21, 15-21 against China's Lei Lan Shi in the first match of the semi-finals. In the second women's singles match, Gao Fangji defeated PV Sindhu 9-21, 21-16, 18-21. Also in another match, the Indian men's doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila/Chirag Shetty defeated the Chinese pair of Zhou Hou Dong/He Ji Ting 21-19, 21-19 for India's first win of the day. In another match, Indian women's doubles pair of Trisha Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand and China's Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning defeated 21-18, 13-21, 21-19.
Facing defeat against China in the final match
In the final match, the mixed doubles pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar/Tanisha Cresto, the Chinese pair of Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Yax Yin dominated the first and second games of the match and won the match 21–17, 21–13. Thus, the Indian team had to settle for a bronze medal after losing to China in the semifinals of the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship 2023.
