The ICC announced the ODI World Cup 2023 schedule yesterday, but the PCB is still apprehensive about sending its team to India for the mega event. However, the ICC is confident that the Pakistan team will definitely come to India for the 2023 World Cup. The ICC also rejected PCB's demand not to hold matches against different teams in Chennai and Bengaluru. In fact PCB did not want to play matches against Afghanistan at Chennai pitch and against Australia in Bengaluru.

Pakistan team last came to India in 2020

Pakistan has an agreement with the ICC to play in the World Cup 2023 and the ICC is sure that the Pakistani team will come to India to play the World Cup. An ICC spokesperson said that all affiliated countries are bound by their country's rules and we respect them. But we are sure that the Pakistan team will go to India to play the World Cup. The Pakistani team last came to India to play the T20 World Cup in the year 2020.

Participation in the World Cup subject to Government approval

Soon after the World Cup 2023 schedule was announced, the PCB clarified that Pakistan's participation in the mega event is subject to government approval. A PCB official said that our participation in the World Cup and our playing in Ahmedabad or Mumbai on October 15 after qualifying will entirely depend on the government's approval. The government has not yet issued NOC to the board to travel to India. Now, as this is a sensitive matter, the board can proceed only after getting guidelines from the government. We have already informed the ICC that any issue related to our participation in the tournament and match venues is related to the government's approval of the PCB's visit to India.
