- Why is Pujara being made the scapegoat after entire Indian batting unit has disappointed in WTC final: Gavaskar
New delhi date. 24 June 2023, Saturday
Former captain Sunil Gavaskar is very disappointed with the decision to drop Indian Test specialist batsman Cheteshwar Pujara from the West Indies tour. Gavaskar said that if the entire Indian batting unit has disappointed in the WTC final, then why Pujara is being made a scapegoat. Apart from Ajinkya Rahane, no Indian batsman could make a mark in the final match of the World Test Championship. Meanwhile, the Little Master also took a dig at Virat Kohli in the chat, saying that Pujara does not have millions of followers on any platform, who would riot if he was kicked out.
Sunil Gavaskar was asked if Cheteshwar Pujara could return to Team India in future? On this question he said, 'Yes' he is playing county cricket. He has played a lot of js[ ball cricket so he knows how to make a comeback. People can play till the age of 40 or 39 years. Nothing wrong with that as they all fit perfectly. As long as you are scoring runs and taking wickets, I don't think age should be a factor.
He further said that clearly only one person was expelled while others remained unsuccessful. Batting failed for me. is If no one scored runs except Ajinkya Rahane then why Pujara was removed. Why is he being made a scapegoat for our batting failures? He is a servant of Indian cricket, he has been a loyal servant. Because, he doesn't have millions of followers on any platform that would make an uproar over him being outed.
Along with this, Gavaskar also suggested that the selectors may rest senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket as they have to play continuous cricket in the next few months.
The former captain said, "I personally wanted the big players to be given a complete break from Test cricket." Now just look at the 50-over or 20-over format. Give them a complete break. They will play non-stop for three-four months.
