India vs South Africa: After the crushing defeat against South Africa in Centurion, the ICC has dealt another blow to India. Team India has been heavily fined due to slow over rate. Rohit Sharma's team has been deducted two crucial ICC World Test Championship points for bowling two overs short of the allotted time against South Africa, while the players have also been fined 10 per cent of their match fees. Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referee Chris Broad said the punishment was given after falling two overs short of the target.
A fine of 5 percent of the match fee was imposed
According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offences, players were fined 5 percent of their match fee for each over they failed to bowl in the allotted time.
Now India's position is sixth
After the loss against South Africa, India was at the 5th position with 16 points. However, India has now slipped to sixth place below Australia after points were deducted due to slow over rate. India currently have 14 points in their account.
All the batsmen failed except Kohli
In the Centurion Test against South Africa, India lost by an innings and 32 runs. This is Team India's biggest ever defeat on South African soil. Batting first, India put 245 runs on the board thanks to KL Rahul's century, against which the hosts scored 408 runs thanks to Dean Elgar's innings of 186 runs.
