According to a report in 'Sports Pavilion', Hasaranga has been made the captain of the T20 International team by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. Sri Lanka toured New Zealand for a three-format series in April, where Sri Lanka's T20 team was captained by Dasun Shanaka. But now Hasaranga has been made the captain of the T20 team. However, there is no official confirmation regarding this yet.

The year 2023 has not been anything special for Hasaranga. Due to injury this year, he could not play Asia Cup 2023 and then ODI World Cup 2023. Hasaranga suffered an injury during the Lankan Premier League in August, and has been sidelined since then. RCB also released him before IPL 2024. However, in the mini auction held for 2024, the Sri Lankan all-rounder was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad at a base price of 1.5 crores.

Apart from this, he took 67 wickets in 47 ODI innings and scored 832 runs with the help of 4 half-centuries by batting in 42 innings. Then, he took 91 wickets in 56 innings of T20 Internationals and scored 533 runs in 49 innings, including 1 half-century.
