Anil Kumble Remembers Pujara : Indian cricket team's young batsman Shubman Gill has not scored a single fifty in the last 11 Test innings. He scored 128 in the first innings against Australia in March last year. His highest score since then is 36 runs. Gill scored 23 runs in the first innings of the first Test match against England while he was dismissed for zero in the second innings. India lost the first test match by 28 runs. After seeing Gill's disappointing performance, former Indian spinner Anil Kumble got angry at him.

Even Pujara did not get such security - Anil Kumble

Anil Kumble said, “The security that Gill has got from not getting out of the team was not even secured by Cheteshwar Pujara who has played more than 100 Test matches. I often talk about Pujara because until recently he was batting at number three. Pujara played the final of the World Test Championship and since then Shubman Gill has been coming in at number three."

Gill has to improve his technique

Kumble further said, “Gile has to work on his mentality and also improve his technique. If you want to bat at number three in India, you have to work on your technique. He has the skills and he is young, learning, but he has to play well in the second Test or the pressure will be on him."

“Gill has the best person to teach as a coach”

When asked if Gill could change his style four days before the next Test, Kumble said, “It's about the mentality, he has the best person to teach him in the form of a coach. Indian batsmen have to play spin better. Some of the batsmen's attitude was not positive and the footwork was also poor."
