Former Indian captain and current expert and commentator Sunil Gavaskar has criticized Shubman Gill for throwing wickets. Gill struggled to stay on the wicket on the first day of the India V/S England Test match in Hyderabad. On the one hand, Yashaswi was batting furiously, on the other hand, Gill was playing defensive shots in an attempt to save the wicket. His eyes were on scoring big the next day. He managed to save his wicket on the first day but on the second day he threw away his wicket and wasted all his hard work. Sunil Gavaskar rained on the gills sitting in the commentary box.
Gavaskar said during the commentary, what kind of shot did he want to play? This is understandable when he is looking to play a shot in the air but this was just a bad on-drive. He worked hard enough and then he played this kind of shot.
England got the wicket of Shubman Gill on the 5th ball of the 35th over. Gill gave his catch to Ben Duckett trying to get an on drive off Tom Hartley. Gill's innings ended at a close score of 23. He hit only 2 fours while facing 66 balls.
Gill has thrown such wickets so many times in his short Test career that he has now faced criticism. He has crossed the 50-run mark four times in red ball cricket so far. Gaba's innings of 91 runs is also included, but they could not reach the three digit mark even once.
In the 38 innings played so far, Gill crossed the 25-run mark 10 times but could not reach a half-century. He has a lot of talent but throwing such wickets in red ball cricket is a concern for his future.
