New delhi date. 29 January 2024, Monday

The Delhi High Court heard the defamation petition filed against former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni today. Dhoni's old friend filed a defamation case against him. Dhoni's lawyer said during the hearing that the defamation petition filed against him was not meritorious.

However, the Delhi High Court has so far refused to pass any interim injunction against Dhoni, several media houses and social media platforms to restrain them from posting or publishing any alleged false defamatory material against the plaintiff on any platform that would impugn their credibility and Can tarnish reputation.

Dhoni's lawyer appeared in the High Court and said that the defamation petition filed against the former Indian captain is not admissible. His counsel further said that he did not receive the copy of the complaint and related documents and was informed about the filing of the case only by the High Court Registry.

On this, the court has asked the plaintiff's lawyer to make available the complete set of documents to Dhoni's lawyer within three days. A lawyer appearing for the plaintiff said that he only wanted impartial reporting by the media and claimed that the media reporting against his client was not impartial as he had already been branded as a thug and a thief.

Advocate Siddhant Kumar, representing one of the media houses, also argued that the plea was not fit to be heard and had said in an earlier judgment that there would be no case unless specific charges were leveled against each of the defendants, including the media house. He also said that the matter does not fall within the jurisdiction of this court.

Dhoni's business partners filed a defamation case

In a petition filed by the business partners, they have asked the court to protect their reputation from damage due to false allegations of Rs 15 crore fraud by Dhoni. The petition informed that apart from the alleged fraud of Rs 15 crore, Dhoni had also accused him of breaching the 2017 contract.
