BCCI Issue Ultimatum To Play Ranji Trophy : BCCI has taken a strict decision regarding the players who are out of the Indian team for the England series. The board has given strict instructions to the players left out of the Indian team to play the next round of the Ranji Trophy. The BCCI has asked the players to join their respective Ranji squads before the next round starting on February 16. This decision has been taken at a time when players like Ishan Kishan have left Ranji and started preparing for IPL. Along with this, Shreyas Iyer will also have to perform well in Ranji to return to the Test team.
Ishan reached Baroda ignoring the coach's advice
During the tour of South Africa, Ishan suddenly demanded a break from the team management, after which he has been away from cricket continuously. Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid said, "If Ishan Kishan wants to return to the team, he will have to play some cricket." However, despite Dravid's suggestion, Ishan did not play in the Ranji Trophy and did not join his team Jharkhand, nor did he give any information. Defying the coach's advice, Ishan reached Baroda and was seen practicing with Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya.
Players have to give preference to their state teams
The BCCI's advice to play the Ranji Trophy will not only apply to Ishan and Shreyas, but also to players like Krunal and Deepak Chahar, who are currently not in Indian team management's plans in Test cricket. Shreyas' poor form saw him dropped from the squad for the last three matches against England. Now he also has to accept this decision. A BCCI source said that players cannot choose either IPL or international cricket as per their choice. He said, 'Playing is not only in international cricket or IPL. Players have to be a part of local season and cricket too and give preference to their state teams too.'
The rule will not apply to Kohli and Pandya
Hardik Pandya is yet to get permission to play from the National Cricket Academy. Also this decision will not apply to Virat Kohli who is out of the squad due to personal reasons. Ishaan is wasting his time waiting for IPL. According to reports, he also did not tell the board where he was and what he was doing.
