Rohit Sharma, IND vs ENG 4th Test : After defeating England by 5 wickets in the fourth match of the 5-match Test series between India and England, Indian team captain Rohit Sharma made a big statement in the press conference. Praising young players like Yashashwi, Dhruv Jurel, Sarfaraz and Rajat Patidar, Rohit Sharma said, "Players who dream of making it to the national team without any effort should understand that only players with 'hunger for success' will make it in this format."
Rohit taunted Kishan and Iyer!
After winning the fourth Test against England, Rohit praised emerging players like Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurrell, Yashshwi Jaiswal and Akash Deep. Rohit seemed very happy with the participation of these young players. Rohit said in the press conference after the match, “We will only give opportunities to those players who are hungry for success. There's no point playing them if they're not hungry." Rohit's statement is being considered as a taunt for players like Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer who are away from domestic cricket.
Ishan and Iyer defied the BCCI order
Rohit's statement comes after the BCCI ordered players like Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer to play in the Ranji Trophy matches but both ignored it. Rohit said, “I have not seen any player here in the team who is not hungry for success. The guys who are here and the guys who aren't all want to play. But in test cricket you get very few opportunities. If you don't take advantage of it, it will go away."
Tests are the toughest format - Rohit Sharma
Ishan Kishan did not play for his state Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy but was seen practicing with his Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya in Baroda ahead of next month's IPL. Asked if the lucrative league is affecting the desire among young players to play Test cricket, Rohit said, “Test cricket is the toughest format. If you want to achieve excellence and success in this format, you have to show passion for it.”
