Kapil Dev : The BCCI on Wednesday announced the central contract for the Indian men's cricket team for 2023-24. This time the board has decided to release many star and experienced players from the central contract. By excluding Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from central contracts, the board gave a stern message to the young players. This decision of BCCI is considered correct by most former cricketers. However, former cricketers have also expressed hope for the return of these two players. Meanwhile, India legend Kapil Dev has also supported the BCCI's decision to exclude cricketers who ignore domestic cricket from central contracts.
“No one is greater than the country”
Kapil Dev said, "Yes, some players will get hurt, some people will have problems, let it happen, but no one is bigger than the country. Well done. I congratulate the BCCI for taking necessary steps to save domestic cricket. I am saddened to see that When players make a name for themselves in international cricket, they leave domestic cricket."
Players like Kirti Azad and Irfan Pathan gave support
Ishan Kishan did not play for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy after skipping the South Africa tour in December last year. He started preparing for IPL 2024, in which he will play for Mumbai Indians. Seeing this decision of Ishan, the board clearly said that the players with central contract will have to participate in domestic cricket if they stay out of the team. However, along with Ishaan, Shreyas Iyer also ignored the board's order. After which Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were removed from BCCI's central contract on Wednesday. There is a mixed response regarding this decision of the board. Some former players like Kirti Azad and Irfan Pathan supported the pair.
