The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced the name of Babur Azam as the captain of the ODI and T20 teams. He will replace Sarfaraz Khan. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Babur, one of the world's top batsmen, as its captain for one year. With this, Babur will now replace Sarfaraz Ahmed. Pakistan had earlier handed over the captaincy of its Test team to Azhar Ali.
Azam will now captain Pakistan for one year in the season starting July 1. Pakistan, meanwhile, have six ODIs and 20 T20s to play. Meanwhile, Asia Cup and T20 World Cup are to be played. The future of which is currently uncertain due to the Kovid-12 epidemic.
Pakistan sacked Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain after the devastating failure of the ICC ODI World Cup. However, Pakistan has not played a single ODI since that World Cup. They were scheduled to play ODIs against Bangladesh in Lahore in the first week of April, but had to cancel the event due to the outbreak of the Kovid-12 epidemic. Now they are hoping that Pakistan will get to play a Test series in England in July. Babur Azam will get a chance as a limited overs captain in late October. At that time, Pakistan has to play ODI against South Africa.
