Qazi Anik Islam, a young fast bowler from Bangladesh, was banned for two years after he was found guilty of taking drugs. Anik underwent a dope test in 2018. In the same year, Anik took the most wickets in the Under-19 World Cup.
Dope tests revealed that Anik had taken a drug called methamphetamine before participating in the Under-19 World Cup. Anik admitted his mistake after testing positive for dope. Anik, 21, was suspended for two years.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said in a public statement that Anik Islam had confessed to taking the drug after testing positive for dope. However our investigation revealed that Anik had inadvertently taken this drug. He was not addicted to drugs. In order to make his appearance more impressive, he understood that he did not take the drug in a planned manner.
However the board soon added that doping is a crime so every sportman should avoid it. The board also said that the ban imposed on Anik would be effective from February 2019. The board claimed that Anik would be given special training to prevent him from making such a mistake in the future.
Earlier, Pakistani cricketers were also caught taking drugs in this manner. In other sports, too, there have been frequent reports of drug abuse over the past few years. Players are tempted to take drugs to show their best in any sport.
