Sri Lankan police have launched an investigation into whether the 2011 World Cup final against India was a fix. Sri Lankan police questioned Arvind De Silva, a former Sri Lankan cricketer and former chairman of the selection committee, for six hours. Now, opener Upul Tharanga, who was part of Sri Lanka's squad for the 2011 World Cup, will be called up tomorrow.
Former Sports Minister Mahindrananda Aluthamage had alleged that some people had fixed the 2011 World Cup final against India. Sri Lanka has enacted strict laws on match-fixing and set up an anti-corruption unit-sports in the police. "Today we have started an investigation into the 2011 World Cup final," said Superintendent Jagath Fonseka. Following the statement made by Arvind de Silva, we have called Upul Tharanga tomorrow.
Opener Tharanga made his debut for Sri Lanka in the final of the 2011 World Cup and scored two runs off 20 balls. The special team recorded Aluthamage's statement last week.
