The BCCI has received formal approval from the central government to host the IPL in the UAE this year. IPL president Brijesh Patel made the revelation on Monday.
The IPL will be held in three cities Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai from September 19 to November 10 in the UAE. The government last week formally approved the BCCI to relocate the tournament to the UAE due to the rising cases of corona in the country.
A BCCI official said that when an Indian shifts a sports tournament abroad, it needs the approval of the Home Ministry, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Sports Ministry respectively. Once we got the verbal approval from the government, we had to inform the Emirates Cricket Board. Now we have enough papers. So the franchise can be notified when everything is in order and this tournament can now be organized in the UAE without any worries.
Most franchisees will be able to test RT-PCR corona on August 20, 24 hours before departure to the UAE, after which they will go directly to the UAE.
