Apart from training for helicopter shots and cover drives on the field, the young cricketers of Vadodara will also get special training to face off-field challenges from now on. Under-23 and Ranji squad players will be given professional training on how to avoid off-field glamor-stricken strangers and bookies trying to make friends.
The Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) has organized a workshop to teach young cricketers how to cope with such a terrifying mind game, keeping in mind the possibility of young players being selected in future IPL teams.
Shishir Hatangali, CEO, Baroda Cricket Association, said that with the advent of gaming apps offering cash prizes, there has been a significant increase in cricket betting. Bookies have also started betting on domestic cricket, the scorecards of which are streamed live on various websites. This has also increased the chances of domestic cricketers falling prey to such bookies inadvertently.
There are many instances in which certain elements have tried to make friends with players off the field. Women can also be used to blackmail players and trap them in honeytrap. In view of all these possibilities, players have been warned not to receive video calls from unknown numbers. He has also been told not to share anything about the game with his friends.
Players will be told not to let fans or strangers into the room while traveling to other cities. They will also be instructed not to disclose any information regarding weather, wickets or cricket ground.
According to Shishir Hatangali, players can contact a representative of their anti-corruption unit directly if they see a suspicious person chasing them on or off the ground.
