Disappointment spread among the Indian fans as India lost the Asia Cup Super-Four match against Sri Lanka after a miserable batting performance followed by an average performance by the bowlers and fielders. India got a chance to run out twice on the fifth ball of the last over , but Pant-Arshdeep could not seize the opportunity and eventually India lost. Sri Lanka chased down the target of 174 for the loss of four wickets in 19.5 overs. Kusal Mendis (57) and Nisanka (52) scored half centuries. Rohit's 72 runs in 41 balls could not win India. Shanaka was 33 in 18 balls and Rajapaksa was not out for 25 in 17 balls.
Arshaddeep bowled the final over in a very exciting match. With Sri Lanka needing two runs to win off the last two balls , Shanaka took two byes. He misses the ball and the ball goes to Pant. Pant then had a chance to run out the batsman , but missed. The ball reached Arshdeep and he too missed the chance to get a run out at the non-striker's end. Meanwhile, Shanaka-Rajapaksa ran two runs and Sri Lanka won. Significantly , when Sri Lanka needed 21 runs in the last two overs , Shanaka-Rajapakse took 14 runs off the bowling of Bhuvneshwar. An unbeaten partnership of 64 runs was registered between the two in 5.4 overs.
Chasing a target of 174 to win, Sri Lanka started aggressively. The pair of Nisanka and Kusal Mendis created a sensation by sharing 97 runs in 11.1 overs. At this stage, it seemed that Sri Lanka would win easily. However, in the 12th over of the innings, after Chahale Nisanka dismissed Asalanka, there was excitement in the Indian camp. After that Gunathilaka (1) and Kusal Mendis (52 off 37 balls) were also dismissed, Sri Lanka registered 110 runs for four wickets.
Apart from Rohit Sharma's 41-ball 72 with 5 fours and 4 sixes in his captaincy and Suryakumar Yadav's (34 in 29 balls) 97 for the third wicket in 9.4 overs, the Indian batsmen were a flop show as India scored 20 in the second match of the Asia Cup Super Four against Sri Lanka. Scored 173 runs for 8 wickets in the overs.
