The England team also started the first innings brilliantly. Crowley and Duckett put on a 59-run partnership for the first wicket. Duckett was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav in the 11th over to give India their first breakthrough. Bumrah gave India a big wicket by dismissing Joe Root in the 26th over. The England team was bundled out for 253 runs.
