The ICC recently announced the schedule for the ODI World Cup to be hosted by India this year. The tournament will start from October 5. While the Indian team will play its first match on October 8 against Australia.
The biggest match in the ODI World Cup hosted by India this year is between India and Pakistan. The match is scheduled to be held on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. But according to sources, the date of this match may change. Now a big statement of the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Jai Shah has come out.
The new World Cup schedule will be announced in 2-3 days
Jay Shah has said that there is a possibility of a change in the schedule of the ODI World Cup to be held in India this year. It may be announced in the coming days. Jai Shah said that a 2-3 member board has appealed for some changes in the World Cup schedule. Especially not for the India vs Pakistan match
The first day of Navratri is October 15
In fact, recently there was news that the match between India and Pakistan may be held a day earlier i.e. on 14th October instead of 15th. The reason is that the first day of Navratri is coming on October 15. In such a situation security agencies have alerted BCCI to change the date due to Navratri festival. A source said that agencies have told us about this and we are discussing, will take a decision soon.
The thing to understand here is that not only Navratri but also festivals like Deepavali and Dussehra are coming up during the World Cup. In such a situation, BCCI may face many difficulties to match.
Not one but two match dates can be changed
Jai Shah has given a clear indication with his statement that if the date of the India-Pakistan match is changed, a lot of manipulation may have to be done. According to Jai Shah, the dates of not one but 2 or more matches may change.
But here it is to be understood that the real issue is to reschedule the India-Pakistan match. If this match takes place on 14 October instead of 15, it will cause a huge loss to the broadcasters, as 3 matches will be stopped together on 14 October. In such a scenario, the BCCI could be held on October 14 at the same time as the India-Pakistan match on October 15, a day after the England-Afghanistan match.
