8 teams are to participate in Champions Trophy
The ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held in Pakistan. This tournament will be played in 2025. Amidst the World Cup being held in India, a big news is coming that 8 teams are going to participate in the Champions Trophy. 4 of the 10 teams in the World Cup will go to the semi-finals, but the top 7 are in between. In fact, the World Cup points table will have an impact on the Champions Trophy.
The first 7 teams in the points table will qualify for the Champions Trophy
When the Champions Trophy was last hosted in 2017, Pakistan defeated India to clinch the title. Now to be played again in 2025, the teams that will be at the top 7 in the points table at the end of the league stage of the World Cup will qualify for the Champions Trophy. Eight teams will play alongside hosts Pakistan. The qualification system for the 2025 Champions Trophy was approved by the ICC Board in 2021, an ICC spokesperson said.
So England can be out
If the top seven teams in the World Cup get a chance to play in the Champions Trophy, even a strong team like England can stay away. According to the World Cup points table, they are at the bottom i.e. 10th. So the Afghanistan team can qualify for the Champions Trophy, as they are ranked seventh in the points table. And looks set to qualify for the Champions Trophy.
