Irfan Pathan : Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has questioned BCCI's central contract 2023-24. Shreyas Iyer and Ishaan Kishan have not been included, although both deserved it. Pathan has backed Shreyas and Ishan and questioned the BCCI as they included a player like Hardik Pandya in Grade-A. While Iyer and Ishaan are not included in any grade.
Pathan lashed out at BCCI
Posting on social media, Irfan wrote, “Both Shreyas and Ishaan are talented cricketers. Hope they come back. If a player like Hardik does not want to play red ball cricket, should he and others like him participate in white ball domestic cricket when not on national duty? If this is not applied to all, Indian cricket will not achieve the desired results!”
Ishan and Iyer fit BCCI's criteria
As per the BCCI criteria, a player is included in the central contract if he has played 3 Tests, 8 ODIs or 10 T20Is from October 1 till the central contract is announced. Both Ishaan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer fit into this. Even after five matches, he did not get a place in the central contract.
Ishaan and Iyer did not get a place in the central contract
Shockingly, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer did not get a place in the central contract because they did not value the Ranji Trophy. A lot of injustice has been done to Shreyas Iyer, as he played the Ranji Trophy after the South Africa tour and was also part of the Test team after that. Not only that, he is going to play the semi-final, but the selectors have treated him the same way they treated Ishaan.
Dual attitude of selectors
Irfan Pathan targeted the selectors for this reason and said that if you keep a player like Hardik Pandya who does not even play Test cricket in Grade 1 then why are you doing this with Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer. Just like Hardik doesn't play Tests, Ishaan also doesn't want to play Tests, then why is he being treated like this. While Kuldeep Yadav played all three formats, he got placed in Grade-B.
